Let's Talk about Fake Readers

UNEDITED. UNINSPIRED. PURE THOUGHTS.

Today I’m going to dive into my frustration with fake readers and why I believe they feel the need to fake being a reader. This is also going to be a blog where I don’t look for inspiration and it’s just purely my thoughts. I’m not going to look for better sounding words or try to sound like a robot. I’m finding my own personal style again. I’m trying to break that pattern of me looking at videos or posts for words to say, so please excuse my grammar.

I don’t know about you but I’m kinda sick of readers who only read dialogues telling me what is a good book and what's not. Like, why do you feel the need to put on a show when you read? I may come off a little rude on this one but trust, I'm just really passionate about this stuff.

So I have this friend (who is most definitely a real reader) and she is friends with another “reader”... she is not… she's the type of person to ask to borrow your book then dog ear all the pages and not give it back for a year. I can clearly tell she’s not really reading it, she just wants other people to look at it and think she is.  No hate for her of course but it got me thinking, why are you trying so hard to be a reader when it clearly doesn't interest you?

Now you may be wondering, why does this upset you so much? Because it’s not fair!! And I bet if you’re a real reader too you’ll understand my frustration with the fakers! First of all you’re telling people what books they should and shouldn’t read when you really haven’t even read it yourself! Also, if the fake reader is acting all “I’m a reader and I’m going to shove it down your throat” that gives real readers a bad rep. If you happen to be lending a book to these fakes you’ll probably get it back in worse condition then you gave it because they care more about appearance than experience.

Okay now that I got all my frustration out, why? Why do people feel the need to change what they like? They could be trying to be accepted into a friend group, but I feel like if you want to be in a friend group of readers then you’d probably actually like reading. Maybe they want to read but are just bored or can’t focus. If you're going to read only dialogues, then you might as well just watch a movie. Without the words between dialogues, you get no imagery and that’s half the experience! Reading is supposed to be a fun hobby. There’s no use in forcing yourself to like something or pretending to like something. Trust me, it shows that you aren’t actually passionate about it.

I have to say, after writing this totally based on my thoughts, words came to me a lot easier and I had a lot more fun writing it. I’m going to continue to write like this every week and hope I reverse the damage social media has done to my creative mind.
